KUCHING: Sarawak Gerontology and Geriatrics Society aims to be a platform for senior citizens to obtain information on healthy living while ageing gracefully.

Its president Dennis Tan hopes that the society, which consists of professionals across various fields, can improve interactions between older adults and family members, peers and healthcare professionals.

“The main gist is to extend our golden years and compress the debility years,” he said after leading a delegation on a courtesy call to Minister of Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah at her office, here yesterday.

He added the Society was established to develop an initial awareness which will lead to a long-term health reform plan for Sarawak.

Fatimah, meanwhile, said the setting-up of the society is in line with the ministry’s policies of preparing society to be an aged country by 2030.

She said it is important for all senior citizens to age gracefully, healthily and socially, adding the concept of retirement villages with facilities catered to the elderly should be
looked into.

The Society is located at
Icom Square
B423-B433, Tower B2, Level 4,
Jalan Pending
93450 Kuching, Sarawak.
