About the SGGS

The Sarawak Gerontology and Geriatrics Society (SGGS) is a non-profit professional society that serves those in their golden years to live their best years of their lives.

The Sarawak Gerontology & Geriatrics Society (PPM-017-13-18012019) was founded with the goal of creating a long-term health reform plan for Sarawak. We aim to raise awareness about aging and provide a platform for members to learn from professional presentations and discussions.

Our objectives include organizing educational events, publishing newsletters and research papers on gerontology, and networking with other organizations in the field. With this knowledge, we hope to empower older individuals and enrich their lives through the information and resources we share.

We believe that the SGGS is like a chain or a rope: Individually, we may not be very effective, but as a group, we can accomplish great things. By belonging to a team or community, we stand stronger when we pull together and support each other, like links in a chain or strands in a rope. Working together and caring for each other’s wellbeing, we can create a close-knit community that aligns with the Ministry of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development’s mandate of sustaining community wellbeing for a dignified existence for all.

At SGGS, we are committed to maintaining a friendly, safe, and inclusive environment for all members and potential members. We encourage respectful and supportive behavior, such as actively participating, showing empathy and kindness towards others, being open to different viewpoints, providing and accepting constructive feedback, working collaboratively to resolve conflicts, taking responsibility for our actions, and considering the needs of the community as a whole. We also ask that you be mindful of your surroundings and considerate of others’ availability and resources when seeking help, including our local SGGS team.

Unacceptable behavior includes but is not limited to: discriminatory or hateful speech based on gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, mental health, socioeconomic status, neurodiversity, physical appearance, race, or religion; patronizing, passive-aggressive, intimidating, condescending, or sarcastic language or behavior; harassment, both public and private, including the use of inappropriate nudity or sexual images, deliberate intimidation, sexual attention or advances, stalking, or revealing personal information without consent; engaging in illegal activities or activities that infringe on copyrights or intellectual property, or encouraging others to do so; sharing inappropriate or NSFW materials or links; spreading misinformation; and other conduct that could be considered inappropriate in a professional setting.
